Stonethwaite, once farmed by the monks of Fountains Abbey in Yorkshire, has some of the oldest buildings in Borrowdale.
St. Andrew’s Church dates back over 300 years. The Borrowdale Batik created by the children of the nearby school is displayed in the church. An area very popular with campers, farming and tourism sustain the local economy today. Both the Cumbria Way and the Coast to Coast route pass through Stonethwaite.
