Once a monastic ‘grange’, then a farming, quarrying and mining community, hospitality to visitors is now the mainstay of the local community. Distinctive slate walls lead to the Holy Trinity Church, built by Miss Margaret Heathcote. The Methodist Church by the seventeenth-century double-spanned bridge tells more of the Borrowdale Story. Many come to Grange to enjoy the river, relax at a cafe or walk the old miners’ track to Castle Crag and Rosthwaite.
